Ok, so you may have seen recently I shared the most gorgeous metallic red urban decay lipstick on Instagram, which was kindly sent to me by The Fragrance shop! My first reaction to this was “oh no, I never wear red, I’ll probably end up giving this to my sister” but then after getting brave, I decided to just try it on one night and was honestly so in love with it. So I decided to take some photos to monument the one time I’ve worn a red lip out of the house. I think what makes this different is that it is metallic so it’s not as ‘hard’ looking like a matte red and it’s also lower maintenance to wear because it is a creamy formula rather than drying to a matte finish why can feel really uncomfortable to wear. The last time I tried to wear a red lip was about 4/5 years ago, I wore it on a night out and I remember looking back at the photos and swearing I’d never attempt a red lip again, maybe this is closer to my shade of red (they say there’s a colour for everyone, or maybe my colouring has changed in the last few years or it could be a combination of a bunch of different things. Either way, I’m loving this lipstick and it inspired my Christmas party makeup look. This look is super glowy and flushed, the eyes are simple with a little emerald green eyeliner and a bucket load of mascara and then I let the lipstick do the talking. As for my hair, I kept things pretty close to my natural texture, just adding it a few more defined waves but overall I kept my hair very relaxed to avoid looking too put together. Full details below…
Base
Before I put on any full face of makeup, especially if I want it to last, I always start with the dermalogica daily microfoliant scrub to polish up my skin and getting it looking super clean and soft and then I use the Dermalogica Skin Smoothing cream all over and down my neck to even out my skins texture and keep my hydration levels high. Especially in winter dry skin and heavy makeup is a disaster waiting to happen. For a party look, I like to keep my base as full coverage as I can without looking like a mask, so I started with applying IT cosmetics CC cream all over and then took half a pump of estee lauder double wear and topped up coverage where I thought I’d need it. I’ve been loving the glossier stretch concealer recently and find it works best when patted on in circular motions rather than buffing away, the more you blend this the sheer-er the coverage will be. I used the pixiglow palette bronzer to warm up my face and then took a little of the Dior Rosy Glow blush which gives the most beautiful pop on the skin and leaves you with a flushed but natural look.
Eyes
For brows, I combed through some powder and brushed my brows up and out for a fluffy look using my favourite blink brow bar clear gel. On my eyes, I took a champagne coloured shadow from my pixi ultimate holiday palette and swept it across the lid and down into the inner corner of my eye. Lined my eyes into a subtle flick with a deep green shimmer eyeliner from No7 that although it dries it doesn’t dry matte and still has a gorgeous wet-look about it. Lastly, I curled my lashes and added two generous coats of the marc jacobs mascara making sure to get both top and bottom lashes and close into the corner of my eye to catch every lash.
Lip
You know this one by now, I’m only wearing Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Wrath, I took a lip brush to line the corners and my cupids bow and then applied directly on the rest of my lips. Wore really nicely and was still perfect and comfortable after 2/3 hours wear.
Extras
I set my makeup with the Pixi setting spray that I love, smells so good and keeps everything looking fresh all day long. After an hour or two, I did add a little powder to my T zone just to keep things in place and stop myself getting too oily.
